This Quarter’s Tech Book Recommendations (Q1 2013)

I have recently read several books in my attempt to construct what the perfect IT organization/business might look like. Here are the ones I recommend:

  • The Phoenix Project – This book focuses on a newly promoted VP as he attempts to turn the IT arm of the enterprise around before it is outsourced. This book can be read as an introduction to the DevOps mentality. It is a page-turner.
  • The Lean Startup – This book attempts to show how both startups and established enterprises alike can adopt Lean Principles to react to new and existing customer markets in the most effective ways possible. It is an inspiring book.
  • Peopleware: Productive Projects and Teams – The first half of this book might seem like old news, but do not let that discourage you. I found this book to be extremely insightful and help ground those thoughts that you’ve had in the back of your mind, but couldn’t quite put the words to and back up with facts. The third edition is due out shortly, and I’ve already pre-ordered.
